Matthew W. Bassford

Matthew W. Bassford went on to his reward today. I never met Matt, but he had a great impact on my life. From his hymns, articles, sermons, and tackling of Bible questions, I found Matt’s writing to be challenging, encouraging, and, most importantly, thought-provoking.

What I will be most thankful for about Matt is that he showed me how to die well. Matt had ALS, and time and time again over the last several years, he showed brethren and all who came into contact with him what it means to glorify God in life or in death.

He lived a life, as best as he could, to the glory of God and the world and the church is better for it.

Our God, as we adore You,

We learn that life shall pass.

All flesh is dust before You;

Its glory, like the grass.

But You will not forsake us

Nor leave Your word undone.

From darkness You will wake us

To glory like the sun.
