One of my elders preached yesterday and was making a point about our attitude toward the local work and referenced the 12 spies in the book of Numbers. He asked a very pointed question, “what spy am I?”
When the spies returned from scouting out the promised land 10 said it was impossible to take the land while 2 believed they could.
Both groups saw the same land flowing with milk and honey. Both groups received the same promises from God that it was their land. What was the difference?
Attitude.
Thinking about the local work and our attitude:
When the elders say they believe the local church can convert 25 souls this year, what spy am I?
When the preacher is excited about a new class on how to teach the lost, what spy am I?
When the deacons present a new plan to increase visitation, what spy am I?
When a brother or sister is excited about the prospects of teaching their neighbor or co-worker, what spy am I?
What spy am I? Do I have the can-do attitude of Joshua and Caleb or the defeatist attitude of the 10?
“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference” – Winston Churchill.
